Sewer Pipe Bursting

Birnie Plumbing and Drains was the first company in Hamilton to offer sewer bursting. This method was so innovative that the City of Hamilton didn’t even have a permitting system for this type of repair when we first started utilizing this process. However, they were so impressed by how it worked they created a new type of permit solely for this type of work.

Using the Sewer Bursting method requires us to excavate two holes. One hole at the property line and another in your basement. After we have access to your sewer at both ends, we feed a cable through the sewer line that allows us to pull the replacement pipe through the course of the old sewer pipe. The new pipe slides into the old one as it is pulled through, ultimately creating one seamless pipe from your home to property line.

The new seamless pipe adds protection against roots infiltrating your sewer line, as roots tend to grow towards and into pipe seams. While this process is a little more invasive than Sewer Lining (due to excavation), this method is slightly more cost effective and works well for any sewer that is still open and running.
